If you are a lover of the outdoor life, Northern Tasmania's mild climate and perfect position right in the heart of Tasmania offers you the perfect base for your holiday break. And for those with a taste for adrenalin-tinged adventure, the region definitely has you covered!

Your heart will race as you zip-line through the canopy at Hollybank Treetops Adventure, soar off a cliff surrounded by native bushland at Cable Hang Gliding, or pit yourself against gravity rock climbing in the Cataract Gorge. In winter, hit the snow on Ben Lomond – the resort caters for snowboarding, downhill and cross-country skiing – and the drive up the infamous Jacob’s Ladder is an experience you will certainly remember!

For a more restrained pace, try golfing at some of the world’s best courses; Barnbougle and Lost Farm are situated nearby to the coastal village of Bridport, fish for trout in unspoilt tree-lined creeks, take a Segway tour through native forest, or enjoy trail ride on horseback. Take a bushwalk through Tasmania’s breathtaking National Parks - Freycinet Peninsula, Cradle Mountain and the Walls of Jerusalem are all within 3 hours drive and a multitude of short walks offering stunning vistas and scenery are scattered throughout our patch.

Tasmania is renowned as having amazing roads for bike-riding – its possibly why we have nurtured some of the world’s best road-cycling talent here. When Tour De France champion Chris Froome is in pre-season training where does he come? Launceston of course, guided by locally-grown pro Richie Porte, also one of the world’s best. Drop into one of the local bike shops, and they’ll be a be able to give you the low-down on when and where the bunches head out – you’ll be most welcome to tag along.

Mountain bikers are extremely well looked after here as well – much development has gone into trail networks here over the last couple of years. The Hollybank Mountain Bike Park and stage one of the Blue Derby Mountain Bike Trails have recently opened, with industry press proclaiming them some of the best trails in the world. Right in the middle of Launceston are two XC trail networks – both Trevallyn and Kate Reed Reserves are within 10 minutes drive (or 30 minutes ride) from the CBD. Mountain Bike Tasmania offer tours taking these in if you would like some local insight into the best trails. Further afield, the North-South Track on Mt Wellington, and Maydena Bike Park are rides to consider.
