Cressy

Cressy is a rural township that sits below the Great Western Tiers on the Norfolk Plains and is home to the well-known Tasmanian Trout Expo.

Cressy is Tasmania's only 'troutified' township as the local area is a mecca for fly fishing. Known as the 'Gateway to Trout Fishing Paradise' the town offers access to Brumby's Creek, and the Weirs, along with the Macquarie, Lake and Liffey rivers, all top spots that attract anglers from around the world.

The area of Norfolk Plains, which takes in the Cressy district, was once the richest wheat growing area in Tasmania. Today many of the original homesteads and farm buildings exist around the township, some of which now operate as short-term holiday accommodation. Try a luxury farm stay at Cressy House Estate or experience the grandeur of Tasmania’s heritage at Pashanger Estate B&B and imagine yourself in a bygone era. You will feel miles away from the city and yet it is only 15 minutes to Launceston Airport and 20 minutes from Launceston.

Whether you choose to stay awhile in Cressy or simply passing through to start a day of fly fishing, don’t miss the Rustic Bakehouse serving breads and pastries cooked in a Scotch wood fired oven dating back to 1926. And don’t forget to chat to the locals and find out where to go for the best scenic views, short walks and of course the best fishing spots!

Cressy is a 20-min drive (36 km) from Launceston.
